Clinically proven hygienic filters

Yes, you suck. And yes, it works. The NoseFrida is the snot sucker that parents around the world swear by it, including plenty of sceptical Aussie mums and dads who were horrified at first and then became true believers. A hygienic filter means none of that snot gets anywhere near your mouth. Your bub breathes easy. You feel like a hero.

Yes, you use your mouth. No, you don't get any snot in it. Yes, it really works.

Every Australian parent who's heard of the NoseFrida has had the same reaction. Here's why it works and why the thing that sounds disgusting is actually completely safe.

We know what you're thinking. We thought the same thing.

The NoseFrida is a nasal aspirator, a device for clearing your baby's blocked nose. You place the large tube against the outside of your bub's nostril (not inside it, this is important), and use the red mouthpiece to create suction by breathing in through your mouth. The mucus travels up the tube into a collection chamber.

Between the collection chamber and the mouthpiece sits a disposable hygiene filter. This filter is the key. It is clinically proven to prevent any mucus or bacterial germs from travelling past the chamber toward the mouthpiece. Nothing gets near your mouth. The filter does its job every single time, provided it's been replaced after each use.

The result is a level of controlled, gentle suction that works significantly better than a bulb aspirator which provides imprecise, limited suction and is almost impossible to clean properly and better than battery-powered aspirators, which lack the sensitivity and control of parent-powered suction.

It sounds alarming. It works brilliantly. The Australian parents who were most horrified by it are now our biggest fans.

Consider this the permission slip to get over the initial reaction and just buy it.

The blocked nose tool that actually works.

    • Non-invasive design

The tube sits against the outside of the nostril, never inside it. No risk of inserting too deep, no irritation of delicate nasal tissue, no discomfort beyond the suction itself.

    • Clinically proven hygiene filter

Prevents mucus and bacterial transfer from collection chamber to mouthpiece. Replace after every use. Nothing gets near your mouth, like ever. This is the one thing everyone needs to understand about the NoseFrida.

    • Doctor invented & recommended

Developed by a Swedish ear, nose, and throat doctor. Recommended by paediatricians and child health nurses across Australia. Made in Sweden to medical-grade standards.

    • Safe from birth

Safe for newborns, premature babies, and toddlers. No risk of applying too much suction, parent-powered suction naturally self-limits. BPA-free, phthalate-free, latex-free polypropylene.

    • Easy to clean

The blue nasal tube, red mouthpiece, and filter cap are all top-rack dishwasher safe. The clear tube can be cleaned with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Significantly easier to clean than a bulb aspirator.

    • Reusable — filters separate

The NoseFrida device is reusable indefinitely. Only the hygiene filters are single-use. Replacement filters are available separately, so stock up so you're never caught without them during cold season.

What each part does — and why it matters

    • Large nasal tube (blue)

The part that goes against, not inside the nostril. Creates a gentle seal with the outside of the nostril to direct suction. The size ensures it cannot be inserted too deep.

    • Clear collection tube

The long transparent tube connecting the nasal piece to the filter and mouthpiece. Dishwasher safe. You can see the mucus moving through it, which tells you the suction is working. Easy to clean with isopropyl alcohol for thorough sanitising.

    • Disposable hygiene filter

The critical safety component. Clinically proven to prevent mucus and bacterial transfer from the collection chamber toward the mouthpiece. Must be replaced after each use. Never use the NoseFrida without a filter in place.

    • Red mouthpiece

Where you apply gentle suction by breathing in. Parent-controlled suction means you instinctively apply the right amount of pressure, unlike mechanical aspirators which apply fixed, uncontrolled suction regardless of the situation.

    How to use the NoseFrida

    Insert a fresh filter.

Place a new hygiene filter into the filter chamber before each use. Never use the NoseFrida without a filter — this is both the hygiene safeguard and what maintains proper suction.

    Assemble the device.

Connect all components until the tube clicks into position. A proper click means the seal is correct and suction will work as intended.

Optional — apply saline spray first.

A few drops of saline nasal spray in each nostril helps loosen thick or dried mucus before suctioning, making it significantly easier to clear. This step is especially useful for stubborn or crusty blockages.

    Position your bub.

Lay them on their back or hold them securely upright. If possible, have a second person hold their arms and torso still — a wriggling baby makes this harder than it needs to be.

Place the tube against the nostril.

Hold the large blue tube firmly against the outside of one nostril to create a seal. Do not insert it inside the nostril. The seal is what creates the suction, take a moment to get it right.

    Apply suction through the mouthpiece.

Breathe in gently and steadily through the red mouthpiece. Move the tube in a slow circular motion against the nostril — you'll hear and see the mucus moving through the clear tube when it's working. Repeat on the other nostril.

    Clean after use.

Disassemble all components. Dispose of the used filter. Wash the nasal tube, mouthpiece, and filter cap in the dishwasher (top rack) or by hand with warm soapy water. Clean the clear tube with isopropyl alcohol if needed.

From newborn to toddler — and every cold in between.

    • NEWBORNS (0–3 MONTHS)

Newborns are obligate nose-breathers, they can only breathe through their noses. A blocked nose affects feeding directly, as a baby who can't breathe through their nose struggles to suck.

Safe from birth, the NoseFrida is one of the most useful tools for the newborn period, especially in the first cold season.

    • BABIES (3–12 MONTHS)

As babies become more mobile and social, exposure to colds increases significantly.

The NoseFrida clears congestion that disrupts sleep and feeding, two things that matter enormously in the first year. Use before day sleep and night sleep for best results during illness.

    • TODDLERS (12 MONTHS+)

Toddlers attend childcare and pick up every cold going around. They also can't blow their own noses effectively until around 4 years of age.

The NoseFrida remains useful well into toddlerhood, particularly during cold and flu season when ongoing congestion becomes a persistent issue.

    • ALLERGY SEASON

Beyond illness, the NoseFrida is useful for babies and toddlers with nasal allergies or hay fever. Regular clearing during high pollen periods reduces congestion-related sleep disruption and discomfort. Use with saline spray to help rinse as well as clear.

    Questions? We've got answers.

    How does the NoseFrida work?

You place the large blue tube against the outside of your baby's nostril (not inside it) and breathe in gently through the red mouthpiece. The suction draws mucus up the clear tube into a collection chamber. A disposable hygiene filter sits between the collection chamber and the mouthpiece, preventing any mucus or bacterial transfer toward you. The filter is clinically proven to work, nothing reaches your mouth.

Is the NoseFrida safe for newborns?

Yes — the NoseFrida is safe from birth. The non-invasive design means the tube sits against the outside of the nostril rather than inside it, so there is no risk of inserting it too deep or irritating delicate nasal tissue. Parent-controlled suction self-limits naturally. It is BPA-free, phthalate-free, and latex-free polypropylene, made in Sweden. If your newborn has persistent congestion, difficulty breathing, or fever, always consult your GP or child health nurse.

Will I get sick from using the NoseFrida?

No — when used with a clean, intact hygiene filter in place. The filter is clinically proven to prevent mucus and bacterial transfer between child and parent. Replace the filter after each use and never use the NoseFrida without one. Note that clinical evidence covers bacterial transfer specifically, viral particles are smaller and the same evidence base does not apply. As a parent, you're regularly exposed to your baby's coughs and sneezes regardless of the NoseFrida.

How often should I replace the filters?

After every use — or at minimum after each illness session. Filters are single-use for hygiene and suction maintenance. A used filter loses its filtering properties and may also reduce suction effectiveness. During cold season you'll go through multiple filters per day. Buy the replacement filter pack (FB-NFF) when you buy the NoseFrida so you never run out.

How do I clean the NoseFrida?

Disassemble after every use. The blue nasal tube, red mouthpiece, and filter cap are top-rack dishwasher safe, the easiest cleaning method. The clear connecting tube can be wiped with 70% isopropyl alcohol for thorough sanitising. Dispose of the used filter. Let all parts dry completely before reassembling. Never put the filter in the dishwasher — it's a single-use disposable.

My baby cries when I use it — am I doing something wrong?

Almost certainly not. Crying during NoseFrida use is completely normal, it's an unexpected sensation and babies express discomfort through crying regardless of pain. The device is non-invasive and when used correctly doesn't cause pain. Some parents find it easier with a second person holding the baby still. The crying typically stops immediately when you finish, and a breathing baby is almost always a calmer baby — so most parents find it's worth the 30 seconds of fuss.
