2-in-1: instant cold pack + absorbent maxi pad

No freezer required — activates with a bend

Safe for vaginal birth & c-section recovery

Ice packs in your undies — but make it genius. These maxi pads activate with a simple bend and deliver soothing cold right where you need it most after birth. No freezer required, which is excellent when you're in hospital and just need relief right now. Thick, absorbent, and honestly one of the best things about the postpartum pack.

WHAT'S IN THE PACK
  • 24 × full-coverage perineal cooling pad liners
  • 1 × resealable pouch (close after each use to retain moisture)
Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pads

Ice packs in your underwear. Without the ice or the drama.

Cold therapy for postpartum swelling is clinically recommended. Putting a bag of frozen peas in your undies is the traditional solution. This is the upgrade.

Why cold therapy matters after birth and why the old way was terrible

Cold therapy is one of the most consistently recommended interventions for postpartum perineal swelling. Australian midwives routinely advise new mums to apply cold to the perineal area in the first 24–72 hours after a vaginal birth, it reduces inflammation, numbs pain, and makes the early recovery period significantly more manageable.

The traditional approach involved frozen pads made at home, maxi pads soaked in witch hazel and water, then wrapped and frozen before birth. They work. They also require prep at 36 weeks pregnant, take up significant freezer space, and provide a cold pack that thaws relatively quickly and needs to be remade.

The Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pads solve all of that. A full-size absorbent maxi pad with an instant cold pack built in, the same crack-and-cool technology used in first aid ice packs, integrated into the pad itself. Bend to activate. No freezer. No prep. 20 minutes of cold therapy. 260g of absorbency. Everything a padsicle does, without anything a padsicle requires.

How does a pad that cools itself actually work?

The Instant Ice Maxi Pad uses the same chemistry as instant cold packs found in first aid kits, an endothermic chemical reaction between water and ammonium nitrate that absorbs heat from the surrounding area, creating an immediate and sustained drop in temperature.

The two components are separated inside the pad. When you bend the pad firmly, the internal barrier breaks, the components mix, and the reaction begins within seconds. The pad surface drops in temperature rapidly and stays cold for approximately 20 minutes, which aligns directly with the 20-minute cold therapy window recommended for postpartum swelling management.

The cold is delivered through a soft, comfortable top layer that sits against the skin, not the hard, lumpy surface of a traditional ice pack. And because it's also a full maxi pad with 260g of absorbency, it handles postpartum bleeding while providing the cold therapy simultaneously. Two jobs. One product.

    • Bend to activate

Firm bend breaks the internal seal. Cold reaction begins in seconds. No special skill required, if you can bend a glow stick, you can activate this pad.

    • 20 minutes of cold

The recommended postpartum cold therapy window, built into every single pad. Consistent and reliable, not dependent on how long ago you made the frozen pad or how cold your freezer runs.

    • 260g absorbency

Handles early postpartum bleeding, the heaviest flow days, without leaking while you're also managing cold therapy and general postpartum chaos.

    • Full front-to-back coverage

Covers the entire perineal area. Adhesive backing holds the pad securely in the underwear so the cold stays where you need it even when you move.

    • Super-soft top layer

Comfortable against sensitive postpartum skin. The cold is delivered through a gentle surface, not hard plastic or rough materials. It feels like sitting on a very cold cloud.

    • Hospital and home ready

No freezer needed, use them in the hospital from the very first bathroom trip, or at home in the first week. Pack four in your hospital bag without any logistical challenge.

How to use your Instant Ice Maxi Pads

Bend. Place. Feel the relief. That's genuinely the whole thing.

    1. Bend the pad firmly. Hold the pad with both hands and bend it in the middle with a firm snap. You'll feel the internal seal break. The pad will begin to cool within seconds, you can feel it through the packaging.
    2. Wait 10–15 seconds. Give the chemical reaction a moment to get going before opening the wrapper. This ensures the full cooling effect is active when you place the pad.
    3. Open and place in your underwear. Peel off the adhesive backing and place the pad in your disposable underwear with the soft top layer facing up, toward the body. The adhesive holds it in position.
    4. Layer your cooling liner and foam on top.For the complete postpartum recovery stack, add a cooling pad liner on top of the ice pad and spray the healing foam onto the liner. The cold pad, witch hazel liner, and foam all work simultaneously.
    5. Change after 2–4 hours or each bathroom trip. The cold effect lasts approximately 20 minutes after that it continues to function as an absorbent pad. Change as needed for fresh cold therapy and absorbency.

For the first 72 hours when everything is swollen and sore.

    VAGINAL BIRTH — PERINEAL SWELLING

Cold therapy is the primary recommended treatment for postpartum perineal swelling and bruising. Use from the very first bathroom trip — most effective in the first 48–72 hours when inflammation is at its peak.

    PERINEAL TEARS & EPISIOTOMY

Cold reduces inflammation and provides mild anaesthetic numbness around tear and stitch sites. The soft top layer sits comfortably against sensitive, stitched tissue — unlike a hard ice pack or frozen peas.

    C-SECTION RECOVERY

Functions as a standard absorbent pad for postpartum bleeding regardless of birth type. The soft cold pad can also be placed near (not directly on) a c-section incision for post-surgical swelling — always follow your obstetrician's guidance.

    POSTPARTUM HAEMORRHOIDS

Full front-to-back coverage means the ice pad addresses haemorrhoids and perineal soreness simultaneously. One pad. One activation. Everything that's sore, covered.

    Questions? We've got answers.

Are these the same as padsicles?

They do the same job as a DIY padsicle, cold therapy in a pad format, but without the prep work. A traditional padsicle requires soaking pads in witch hazel and water, wrapping individually, and freezing before birth. The Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pad activates instantly with a bend, requires no freezer, and delivers a consistent 20-minute cold window every time. The cold duration is also more predictable than a homemade padsicle, which varies depending on your freezer and how long it's been out.

How long does the cold last?

The cold therapy effect lasts approximately 20 minutes, which aligns with the clinically recommended postpartum cold therapy window. After the cold fades, the pad continues to function as a full absorbent maxi pad. You don't need to change it immediately when the cold wears off, only when you'd normally change a pad.

Is the chemical reaction inside the pad safe?

Yes — the ammonium nitrate and water reaction used in instant cold packs is the same chemistry used in medical-grade instant ice packs and has an extensive safety record in clinical settings. The components are sealed inside the pad and are not in contact with your skin. The soft top layer is the only surface that touches the body. If the pad is punctured or damaged, discontinue use.

    How many will I need?

The 4-pack is designed for the first 24 hours of peak swelling, approximately one pad per waking 4-hour period. For the full 48–72 hours of intensive cold therapy most mums need, we recommend having at least 2 packs. The Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Kit and Labour & Delivery Kit each include 4 pads, if you're ordering a kit, plan to buy an additional 4-pack separately for the second and third day of recovery.

    Can I use these after a c-section?

The pad can be used as a standard absorbent postpartum pad after a c-section regardless of birth type. For cold therapy specifically near a c-section incision, always follow your obstetrician's guidance, direct cold application near surgical sites requires specific medical advice. Many c-section mums use the ice pads for postpartum haemorrhoid relief and general perineal care, which is appropriate for any birth type.
