The postpartum upgrade your maxi pad didn't know it needed.

Same pad. Better experience. Witch hazel, cooling relief, full coverage, just lay one on top and feel the difference.

What is a perineal cooling pad liner, and why does it help?

After a vaginal birth, the perineal area, the tissue between the vaginal opening and the anus, goes through significant trauma. Swelling, soreness, bruising, and in many cases stitches from tears or episiotomy. The standard postpartum maxi pad addresses the bleeding. It does nothing for the swelling or discomfort.

A cooling pad liner is a medicated layer you place on top of your regular maxi pad. The Frida Mom Cooling Pad Liners are soaked in witch hazel, a natural astringent with well-established anti-inflammatory properties, and cover the full length of most maternity pads, delivering front-to-back cooling relief across the entire perineal area from the moment you put them on.

Think of them as the upgrade your maxi pad was always missing. Same pad. Completely different experience.

Why witch hazel? What does it actually do?

Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is a plant-derived astringent that has been used in wound care and skin treatment for centuries. Its active tannins give it natural anti-inflammatory, astringent, and mild anaesthetic properties, which is why it's been a midwifery-recommended ingredient for postpartum perineal care for decades.

Applied to the perineal area after birth, witch hazel helps reduce swelling and inflammation, soothes burning and itching from perineal tears and stitches, provides mild pain relief through its cooling and astringent action, and addresses postpartum haemorrhoids, which are extremely common after both vaginal birth and the pushing stage of labour.

The Frida Mom Cooling Pad Liners contain 50% witch hazel, a meaningful therapeutic concentration with no dyes, fragrances, or harsh chemicals that could irritate healing tissue. They're designed to be as close to the midwife-recommended "witch hazel on a pad" technique as possible, without the DIY hassle.

    INGREDIENT LIST

Active ingredient: Witch Hazel 50% (Hamamelis virginiana)
Inactive ingredients: Water, glycerin, alcohol, chamomilla recutita extract, tocopherol, mentha piperita oil, menthyl lactate

Everything your maxi pad isn't doing — this is.

    • Full front-to-back coverage

Long enough to cover the entire perineal area and not just a small central patch. One liner. Complete coverage. From vag to tush, as Frida puts it.

    • 50% witch hazel

A meaningful therapeutic concentration, not a trace amount. Medicated astringent action that actively reduces swelling and soothes irritation, not just masks it.

    • Instant cooling relief

Works immediately on contact. For extra cooling intensity, pop the pack in the fridge before use, the cold amplifies the witch hazel effect significantly.

    • No harsh chemicals

No dyes. No fragrances. No alcohol in high concentrations. Designed for the most sensitive postpartum tissue, gentle enough to use every pad change.

    • No DIY required

The "padsicle", a homemade frozen pad soaked in witch hazel, is a popular postpartum hack. This is the same idea, ready-made, without the prep work.

    • Resealable pouch

Close after every use to retain moisture and cooling properties. 24 liners per pack, enough for the first week of recovery when you need them most.

How to use your cooling pad liners

Three seconds of effort. Immediate relief. Worth it.

    1. Open the resealable pouch. Remove one cooling pad liner. Close the pouch immediately to keep the remaining liners moist and effective.
    2. Place on top of your maxi pad. Lay the liner flat across the full length of your pad before pulling on your underwear. The witch hazel side faces up toward the body.
    3. Pull on your underwear as normal. The liner stays in place. The witch hazel begins working immediately on contact with the perineal area.
    4. Replace with every pad change. Use a fresh liner every time you change your maxi pad. Do not reuse. Do not flush, bin used liners.

Not just for stitches. For all of it.

    PERINEAL TEARS & STITCHES

The witch hazel astringent action helps reduce swelling and inflammation around the tear site, soothes burning and itching, and supports tissue healing. Essential in the first one to two weeks following any perineal trauma.

    EPISIOTOMY RECOVERY

Same anti-inflammatory and soothing action applies to episiotomy healing. The full-length coverage means the entire affected area is treated, not just the central point.

    POSTPARTUM HAEMORRHOIDS

Extremely common after birth, both from pregnancy pressure and the pushing stage of labour. Witch hazel is one of the most clinically established treatments for haemorrhoid discomfort, and the liner's back-to-front coverage addresses this directly.

    GENERAL POSTPARTUM SWELLING

Even without tears or stitches, the perineal area experiences significant swelling after birth. The cooling and anti-inflammatory action of these liners helps reduce that swelling faster and more comfortably than a standard pad alone.

The padsicle. But without the prep work.

If you've been on any Australian mum forum or birth preparation group, you've probably heard about padsicles, homemade frozen pads soaked in witch hazel, aloe vera, and sometimes lavender oil. They're a popular postpartum recovery hack for good reason: they work. The witch hazel and cold together provide meaningful relief for perineal swelling and discomfort.

The Frida Mom Cooling Pad Liners are the same idea, ready-made. Medicated witch hazel, full coverage, no freezer prep required, just open the pouch and place on your pad. If you want the extra cooling effect, pop the whole pouch in the fridge. Same result, zero effort.

Because in the first days after giving birth, you should be resting, not making padsicles.

    Questions? We've got answers.

Is witch hazel safe to use on stitches after birth?

Witch hazel is commonly recommended by midwives for postpartum perineal care including areas with stitches, its astringent properties help reduce swelling and support healing. The Frida Mom liners use medicated witch hazel without dyes, fragrances, or harsh chemicals that could irritate healing tissue. As always, follow your midwife or obstetrician's specific wound care instructions, and contact your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about your healing.

How are these different from a padsicle?

A padsicle is a homemade frozen pad soaked in witch hazel, popular among Australian mums for postpartum relief. The Frida Mom Cooling Pad Liners are the ready-made version. Same witch hazel, same soothing effect, full front-to-back coverage in a single liner, no prep work, no freezer needed. Pop the pouch in the fridge if you want added cooling, or use at room temperature for immediate relief.

Can I use cooling pad liners after a c-section?

Yes — while the primary use is perineal recovery after vaginal birth, many c-section mums find the liners useful for postpartum haemorrhoid relief, which is common regardless of birth type. The witch hazel is safe to use for general postpartum care. Always follow your obstetrician's specific recovery guidance for your incision site.

How many liners will I need?

You replace a liner with every pad change. In the first 24–72 hours when bleeding is heaviest and you're changing pads frequently, you can go through four to six liners per day. The 24-count pack typically covers the first four to six days. Most mums find they need at least two packs, one for hospital and one for home. Having a second pack on hand is strongly recommended.

Can I pop them in the fridge?

Yes — and it's one of the best pro tips for this product. Chilling the entire resealable pouch in the fridge for 30–60 minutes before use intensifies the cooling effect significantly. Particularly helpful in the first 48 hours when swelling is at its worst. Store in the fridge between uses once you've started the pack.
